OUR ORIGIN STORY

Johnny’s Treasure Quest was born in Michigan during one of the strangest and most uncertain periods of modern life.

Like many people in 2020, we found ourselves asking bigger questions about life, purpose, adventure, and what people were truly missing. The world felt disconnected. Everything was becoming digital, isolated, repetitive, and transactional. People were losing experiences. Losing wonder. Losing community.

Johnny had spent years working as a jeweler and precious metals collector. He loved treasure, history, rare finds, exploration, and the thrill of discovery. One night, while talking about adventure and the legendary Forrest Fenn treasure hunt, the conversation shifted into something deeper.

I remember telling him:
“At least you already have treasure.”

I was talking about the gold, silver, jewelry, collectibles, and artifacts he had spent years gathering.

Then something clicked.

We realized maybe the real treasure was never the objects themselves.

Maybe the real treasure was the experience.
The story.
The people.
The memories.
The adventure.

That single realization changed everything.

We didn’t want to just hide treasure.
We wanted to create adventure.
We wanted people to feel something again.

So we took a leap.

The very first Johnny’s Treasure Quest event became the Oakland County Hunt in Michigan. We had no blueprint, no investors, and no roadmap for what this would become. We simply believed people were hungry for real-world adventure and authentic connection.

Over 500 groups joined the hunt, representing thousands of individual participants across Michigan.

And the moment everything became real wasn’t when people found the treasure.

It was when we buried it.

Standing there, placing treasure into the ground and realizing strangers from all over Michigan were about to unite in pursuit of mystery, exploration, and adventure felt surreal. It felt bigger than us.

And then something incredible happened.

People showed up.

Families explored together.
Friends became teammates.
Communities formed.
Memories were created.
People who had never met before bonded through curiosity, riddles, road trips, and shared experiences.

In a world where trust was becoming harder and harder to find, people took a chance on us anyway. Watching so many people place their trust in a completely unknown idea during such uncertain times carried a weight we never forgot.

JTQ was never built by corporations, investors, or massive production studios.

It was built by community.

Built by people who still believed adventure mattered.

Over the years, JTQ continued growing far beyond treasure hunts alone. What started in Michigan evolved into livestreams, virtual adventures, games, books, collectibles, family events, interactive experiences, and a much larger vision for the future.

But through every challenge, obstacle, criticism, sleepless night, and growing pain, one thing has remained constant:

The community.

The thing we are most proud of is not the treasure itself.
It’s the people.

It’s watching friendships form in difficult times.
Watching families reconnect.
Watching complete strangers support one another.
Watching people come together through wonder, creativity, curiosity, and adventure when the world desperately needed more of it.

Michigan will always be home to JTQ.

Its forests, lakes, roads, towns, legends, history, and communities shaped the spirit of everything we built. JTQ was born here, tested here, and strengthened here.

Today, Johnny’s Treasure Quest continues expanding into something much larger than we ever imagined in 2020.

Not just a company.
Not just a treasure hunt.

A living world of adventure.

A community.
A movement.
A mythology still being written.

Because in the end…

The Treasure Lies in the Adventure.
